Domain Name Registration Made Easy

Your Guide To Easy Domain Name Registration

Why do you need a domain name? Are you considering doing business online? Are you interested in building your own website? If the answer to this is yes then you first need to find a home for your site on the Internet and give it a name, this is your domain name. To do this you’ll have to register a domain name and find a good web hosting company. That is of course unless you take the free route by signing up with a site such as Hub Pages or Blogger which you can join for free and run a blog.

A domain name will provide your website an Internet address which becomes the address of your new website, if you are planning on running a site for business purposes then this is highly important. Under the Domain Name System DNS, domain names are framed of the four elements – a server prefix, a domain name, a domain suffix or extension, and a country code (optional). For instance, www.simpleadsense.com is an example of a domain name where ‘www’ is the server prefix, ‘simpleadsense’ is the domain name and ‘com’ is the domain suffix. Of course there are many other domain suffixes than .com, I am sure you have heard of domain suffixes like .info, .net or .ws which is rapidly becoming popular.

‘Dot-com’ is an example of a top level domain extension and is usually the domain suffix that everyone wants. There are generic top level domains as well, gTLDs, and country code top level domains, ccTLDs. There are many ‘Internet Service Providers’, ISPs and Web Hosts that offer free or bargain-rate domain services that allow you to make your own domain name as extension of theirs, for example, you can host a blog at Blogger.com for free and your URL would look like http://yourname.blogspot.com. If you need more from your site then I would suggest finding a reliable web hosting company and registering your own domain name. There are many benefits to having your own domain with a web host, for example the ability to have an unlimited amount of traffic and storage for your files.

Many people don’t realize how important their domain name is and end up choosing a name that hurts their business. Choose a domain name that identifies your business and what your website has to offer. It is also a good idea to have a name that is catchy or easy to remember so that it is easy for people to type names or partial names into a search engine and find your website. More often than not the domain name you want is already taken, all the good ones are, come up with several names and look at getting a .ws or .net domain suffix. They are becoming more and more popular as more and more .com domains names get taken. .ws is really becoming popular as the suffix reads as website. No matter what domain name that you choose take care that the name of your website is relevant to the types of services or products your site offers. It is often suggested to purchase more than one domain name with the name you choose to use, for example if you get http://yourname.com you should also pick up http://yourname.net and http://yourname.info and so on. The reason for this is to protect your websites name and reputation.

Domain names are not hard to choose, choosing a good domain name is somewhat more difficult. In addition finding a good web host is also not too hard but you should do your research because a good web host is a necessity for running a successful website.
